Partnership with Parents in Early Childhood Settings – new book!

As part of an Erasmus+ project we have been involved in, a book has been written. This due to be published at the end of 2020. The editors are both members of our OMEP UK Executive Committee and members have contributed to chapters within.

“The book looks at some of the different parent programmes that have been introduced in Europe and highlights the positive ways in which professionals can work with parents as well as the potential barriers to parental partnership and how these might be overcome. Each section focuses on a different country and allows for a detailed exploration into how relationships are developed and sustained for the benefit of young children and their families in different contexts. Throughout, the reader is encouraged to reflect on their current understandings of parental partnership and how they can plan for positive parental partnership working in the future. This thought-provoking text will be an indispensable resource for students of early childhood, practitioners as well as those interested in social policy, academics and researchers.”

You can find out more about the book and can pre-order it here.

Panama 2019… meet our first sponsored student!

We received a number of high quality applications for this year’s sponsorship opportunity. The committee had a very hard decision indeed and we thank everybody who applied. All of your applications were interesting and showed passion – and it was hard to choose just two!

Meet our first student here…

My name is Megan McGee. I’m a Master’s student at Liverpool Hope University studying Education and Early Childhood studies. I first heard about the Student Sponsorship for the 71st OMEP World Conference from a tutor at my institution and decided to apply as I desired to have experience of attending a World Conference and wanted to broaden my experiences as a student and future academic. I’m delighted to have been offered such an amazing opportunity to attend the 71st World Conference and I look forward to meeting new people and hearing about their research!

OMEP UK students work with OMEP Nigeria to improve outcomes

By Matt Smith, membership secretary:

OMEP UK and OMEP Nigeria have been working collaboratively with a group of Third Year Primary Education students at Canterbury Christ Church University to produce a booklet to support unqualified practitioners in Nigeria. Nigeria is currently facing a recruitment crises, with many early years professionals being asked to enter the profession, and deliver a prescribed curriculum, without formal qualification. The booklet aims at offering lesson ideas, activities and pedagogical advice aimed specifically at Nigerian provisions. All activities and lessons are aimed at ‘low cost or no cost’, so that they can be widely distributed. The hope is to publish and distribute this to hundreds of early years settings across Nigeria.

Students have been fundraising too, in order to pay for materials to be printed. Does this sound like something you could do? Get in touch! A fantastic experience to support children’s development as well as practitioners!
